be free. be plastic free.

Women use about 11,000 tampons during their menstruating life. Plastic applicators are overwhelmingly the most popular - and each one is used once then thrown away. Out of sight out of mind yeah? Sadly not.

7 billion

plastic applicators are thrown away every year globally, and this is only getting worse as more women around the world have access to decent menstrual products.
What does this mean? Well every piece of plastic ever made is still in existence today, and will be for the next 600 years. Landfill is the least bad resting place for plastic, but lots of it doesn't make it this far.

8 million tons

of plastic makes its way into our oceans every year. It's predicted by 2050 there will be more plastic waste in our oceans than fish. Speaking of fish, 1 in 3 fish we eat already contains plastic. You could be eating your tampons. Yikes. The problem is bad enough that

9 in 10 seabirds

have plastic in their stomachs. So next time you use an applicator, think of Steven Sea Gull. What amazes us, is that we create as much waste from our period products as we do from plastic cutlery and cups, and look how much spotlight that gets. It's time for change.

A re-usable applicator. Why throw away 9 billion pieces of plastic, when we could keep one?
